August 26, 2015 - Unpacking the Straw Poll

There’s been a lot of uproar lately - on Facebook, in my texts, in my email - about the decision of the Colorado GOP Executive Committee last Friday to not do a presidential preference poll (known as a “straw poll”) at the caucuses next year. In tonight's podcast, I explain why this is a win for liberty, and further, why we should be jealously safeguarding the caucus process and fighting the push by the Establishment to move to a primary.

Opening Song: The Willing, "America" (http://freemusicarchive.org/music/The_Willing/The_Dirt_EP/03_America)

(Slightly Edited, mostly intact)

Closing Song: The Bristles, "American Dream" (http://freemusicarchive.org/music/The_Bristles/Live_at_WFMU_on_Pat_Duncans_Show_112008/American_Dream_1944)

The above groups are not affiliated with me, do not endorse me or my opinions, and likely are not aware that I exist. But because their music is so freakin' cool, and because they provided a Creative Commons license, I think you should go download their songs. I have.

[NOTE: The following is offered ENTIRELY tongue in cheek - please take it in the humorous spirit in which it is intended.]

Soooo…. Last night’s podcast headline, “Should we repeal the Bill of Rights?”, was interpreted MUCH too literally - what a great reaction! If I pissed you off last night, please share my podcast with your friends so they can be equally outraged.

Tonight, housekeeping, a.k.a., cleaning up the gigantic mess I apparently left last night, a.k.a., WHAT in the heck forms the strength of our Constitution? Please, please, please, please listen to the podcast (tonight’s is only 15 minutes long - truly bite size for your convenience) before you decide I ought to be hung and quartered in the town square!

I know - repealing the Bill of Rights sounds like heresy, but hear me out. I’ve often wondered whether I would have been an anti-Federalist if I had lived back in the day, but this is one time that I really support Hamilton’s argument in Federalist #84. And no, this podcast is not as boring as I just made that sound.

Should we use propaganda techniques to get conservatives elected in 2016? If so, how do we reconcile our image of ourselves as warriors with integrity, with the idea of using this down-and-dirty tactic to achieve the mission? A brutally honest podcast tonight.

What is the best elected official? Is it someone who reflects the constituency? Um…. look around you. Is that what you want reflected in your elected government?? Tonight’s podcast is a little tongue-in-cheek-y (did I just make up another word?), but takes a serious look at this thought process.

And because I'm not governed by an FCC license, I actually say the word "asses" without worrying about it.

What’s the difference between mission, strategy and tactics, and why is it so important to know? Riffing off last night’s podcast, I explore what I think is a critical distinction, and the high cost of failing to understand it.

How do you stay motivated for the fight? I think I've found the two components that work for me - being an ideologue, and being an idealist. Tonight’s podcast lays out what I mean, and how I came to this conclusion. I hope it gives you the oomph to get up and do this again tomorrow. And the day after. And the day after that.

A friend asked recently, “Why do we worship the god of unity? I mean, if unity is so important, we should just unify with the Democrats and then everything would be grand.”

Yup.

So what does unity look like, and is it even a goal worth pursuing as conservatives? That’s what tonight’s podcast explores.

Yes, I am serious. Accounting.

What's going on with the Colorado GOP's financial status? And why can't we seem to get the answers? This is the most entertaining discussion about accounting you'll hear all year. (And yes, I know that doesn't exactly set a high bar to clear...)
